LDN - naltrexane microdosing
Naltrexone microdosing is a treatment method that involves the gradual introduction of very low doses of the drug in order to establish an indi-vidual minimum effective dose. Full-dose naltrexone is used to treat opioid and alcohol dependence, and in lower doses also to treat obesity. It works by blocking opioid receptors in the brain to maintain abstinence from alcohol and opioids. Low-dose naltrexone (LDN) is used to treat conditions such as chronic pain, fibromyalgia, Crohn’s disease and neuropathic pain in multiple sclerosis. The use of micro-dosed naltrexone in reducing inflammation, improving mood and sleep, and helping to regulate the immune system is being investigated.
Biological drugs for the treatment of chronic migraine
Monoclonal antibodies are a type of medication used to prevent migraines. They are specially designed proteins that target specific molecules involved in causing migraine headaches. In the case of migraine treatment, these monoclonal antibodies focus on blocking a protein called CGRP (calcitonin gene-related peptide), which plays a key role in triggering migraines.
These medications are given as injections, usually once a month or once every three months, depending on the specific drug. They are not meant to treat a migraine that has already started but are used regularly to help prevent future migraine attacks and reduce their severity.
Monoclonal antibodies for migraine prevention have some advantages over traditional oral medications. They tend to have fewer side effects, are more targeted in their action, and may be more convenient for patients due to their less frequent dosing schedule. Some examples of monoclonal antibodies used for migraine prevention include Aimovig (erenumab), Ajovy (fremanezumab), and Emgality (galcanezumab).
It’s important to discuss with your healthcare provider if monoclonal antibodies might be a suitable option for you, considering your medical history, current medications, and individual needs.
- Aimovig (erenumab).
- Emgality (galkanezumab).
- Ajovy (fremanezumab).
Latest available treatment for episodic migraine - rimegepant
Rimegepant is a medication used to treat migraine headaches. It comes in the form of an orally disintegrating tablet, which means it dissolves quickly in your mouth without the need for water. Rimegepant works by blocking the action of a specific substance in your body called CGRP (calcitonin gene-related peptide), which is involved in causing migraine pain. By blocking CGRP, rimegepant can help relieve migraine symptoms such as headache, nausea, and sensitivity to light and sound. It is important to note that rimegepant is used for treating an ongoing migraine attack and for preventing future migraines. If you have any questions or concerns about using rimegepant, please consult your healthcare provider.
